I usually just ask for a picture on a ruler to make sure there are no games! I got burned a few times before I thought to do it though...

i had one that bummed me out a bit a year or two ago. i made an offer on a razor and the seller declined stating they paid too much to accept my offer. ok. im in the same boat often. so a few weeks go by, i notice the razor is still listed but lower asking price. a few more weeks and i see it listed as an auction, with a start price lower than my offer. sweet! i send the seller a message to confirm that the razor is indeed one inch wide as stated in the listing. the seller responded with a confirmation after they remeasured, it is indeed one inch wide they tell me! so i put in a bid, it ended and i won. awesome! i recieve the razor and it measures just under 6/8........... so i message the seller and let them know for future reference that razor collectors/users tend to be picky over how wide a blade is and especially the closer you get to an inch or over, even 1/16" matters to a lot of folks! i explained how the value can follow that increase in size, and after a couple brief messages i left positive feedback and went on my way with the consolation that at least i got it for less then my previously rejected offer (fortunately!) so oh well, lesson learned. dont assume a description or title is completely accurate and dont assume everyone can read a tape measure move on and dont get hung up over a less than perfect deal

Wise words. Perhaps we set ourselves up for disappointment with expectations of how the deal will or should turn out, that's fine with other products, but with straight razors there are far too many variables some as simple as the seller not being able to use a tape measure.
A higher percentage of people than we would initially imagine don't know how to use one, its actually shocking, I had to train employees how until finally putting it on the test and refusing to hire individuals without that qualification.
