    Default Camouflaged Greaves

Here is an example of how different a razor can look with modification. This is a pre-Sheaf Works Greaves (probably 1810-25 or so) that at some point was reground drastically and rescaled. Now it looks like a typical 20th century hollow ground production razor. Found on ebay.

I saw that also and did a double take when I looked at the razor. Sure didn't look like any of the Greaves I have or have seen not even the Greaves/Erye from later on. Thanks for posting.

I understand why some razors get reground, that is one extreme regrind. I wonder is perhaps it was reground more than once. I also older how big it was to start with.

Interesting. I wonder how it looked to begin to with it.

I like the old regrinds if done properly. Seems whoever did this one was quite accomplished.
    Bet it shaves a treat!

Indeed! I'd wager sometime in the early 1900s this was reground, the owner probably took their beat old shaver and wanted it to look like the in-style modern razors.

Hard to say what it looked like originally since there were a variety of styles made with that mark.

I don't have much experience with regrinds, but I can say that my best shaver is an old reground W&B that is now a fine full hollow. No doubt it was a massive wedge when new given the GR stamp:

Tom/ScienceGuy, what is 'an old' regrind? Where is the cut off? Is the cut off when they stopped making straight razors, or further back? As you know Tom, I have an old regrind and it is top drawer all the way.
