Default Shipping...A Kick in the Crotch

Just got back from the Post Office. I knew there was a price increase coming, but man, was I shocked. This will especially affect anyone buying from overseas. I used to be able to ship a razor (or up to three, if they didn't have cases) via Global Priority Mail for $5.25. The price went up to $16, minimum. Oddly enough, I never see a service increase with the Postal Service's (seemingly) bi-monthly price increases.

Ouch, hope that wasn't mine that caught you with a 16 dollar shipping charge!
I wish they'd just make "immortal" stamps so we didn't have to rush out and buy a load of penny stamps every time they decided that the members of congress needed new ivory back scratchers.

Nah. First class went up approximately 75%, but my postmaster said they no longer allow me to purchase delivery confirmation on First Class packages, so yours was sent Priority Mail. A razor that used to cost me .87 to ship is now $1.48. On my site, I used to include shipping for free on any razor I had refurbished, etc. Guess I can't do that anymore, since I pretty much have to use Priority Mail now. I gotta have delivery confirmation.

No confirmation on first class???!!?!?!? That's just madness that makes no sense to me. Then again, this is government we're talking about. And yeah, I have accounts with fedex and ups precisely so I can both ship next day without a hassle and track it everywhere it goes without a hassle. BTW priority and first class are both next day with regards to the distance between us, or at least that's what I was told.

    Uncle Sam wants YOU!!!!
    To use fedex.

Well, according to the local postmaster, they do offer DC on first class, IF you buy it at the post office with the official little receipt slip thing. Electronic postage does not offer DC. They seem to be the last to know at the local offices with these changes tho.

They DO have "Immortal" stamps now- they're called "forever stamps". They are good for First class postage no matter what the first class rate becomes, and they still cost the first class rate.

This increase and consolidation of services has really caused problems where I work- we ship alot internationally, usually light stuff too which gets hit just as hard as a 1 lbs package now.

I just received an item today. It was sent First Class a few days ago (after the rate increase) with computer generated postage and delivery confirmation.

    .
If shipping electronically via Paypal/USPS Delivery Confirmation is offered as a freebie incentive to use their service. All of my USA bound items get shipped this way....electronic postage and DC. DC is also available at the Post Office but is a $0.75 extra as it is if using USPS online, other than via Paypal.
