    I doubt its petrified wood. If it was its quartz. I'm not sure how good a hone it would make. It does look like a coticule though.

    I think it is a natural blue - yellow combo, and judging from the side view picture, it needs a significant amount of lapping before it is usable.

    What ever it is, I'd be a bit reluctant to slide any razor edge across it that I expected to shave with! You might have better luck honing your razor on the sidewalk....

    Hmm, the sidewalk, has anyone ever tried that. It could be the greatest hone in the word is right under our noses.
