Why Do Some Brands Command Such High Values
It might be a strange way to start a thread, but why do some razor brands command high values, I understand the concept of rarity, but why do some manufactures still fetch high values, (sometimes) regardless of condition. And some seeming to be almost un restorable Imo
Wade & Butler
George Wostenholm
Dubl Duck
Being three of the ones that spring to mind, are these razors (In working condition)

Thanked: 3221Personally I think there are very few really rare SRs and I can see paying much more for a NOS SR. Other than that I think it is mostly hype that drives the market. Realistically, any well made SR with a proper shave ready edge will shave you well.

Thanked: 3795Demand determines price. Demand can be influenced by public hype, such as these forums.
The Dubl Ducks are easy to understand. Every time Lynn sells a video, another person hears him declare that the DD WonderEdge is one of his favorite razors. So do you want to know why DDs are expensive? It's Lynn's fault!

Hey ! NO Lynn bashing !! ........... ..............
Kidding aside, some brands are more expensive cause there's one born every minute ....... and two to take 'em ! .........
Kidding aside ........... I'm in a rare mood this morning .......... some razors attain to a cult status. W&B for barber's use, dubl duck wonderedge, reaper, goldedge, some of the fillarmonicas ...... others. The truth is, IME, while those are all great razors, any Sheffield or Solingen ........ or USA razor, from that era will be a great shaver 99 times out of 100.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 4821Some razors are slightly better than others. However, they are not alone, and there is certainly more than the few mentioned as commanding high prices that are vert very good razors. Sometimes they are high on the popular list and that effects the value. A few years ago Puma razors were selling fast at higher values. Not so much these days. They are quite reasonable in price compared to where they were. They are still great razors but there is no frenzy at this point. I'm not sure when or if the others will loose their frenzy.

Razors become like sports teams - they all play hockey but they were different jerseys, people get attached to brands for whatever reasons.
Take Apple, it's a darn computer, under powered and over priced, but they have a cult like following - not a lot of difference in my opinion...:-)

Its just the flavor of the month. I think Double Ducks have come down in price in the last year. I don't know if the current trendy razors will. I agree they all can shave well. What will the next hot one be?

Thanked: 39My Worchster, W.H. Worley &sons, and Genco Grant razors will shave with the best of them, JMHO of course. No need to spend 100's of bucks for a razor. I get mine for around (9.50 to 30 bucks on E-bay.).
