    Default Star of David Razor

    http://cgi.ebay.com/http://cgi.ebay....QQcmdZViewItem

This is an interesting razor, it has the star of David engraved on it. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is it specially made steel or somthing that orthodox jews might be able to use?

all I could find on masonic razor is that it was used as part of last rights to shave a mason. Is that what you mean?

That's a new one to me.

What I meant was that it most likely is just a collector's item. There are Masonic mugs, medallions, wallets, etc. Occasionally, a special piece would be made (such as a beer stein) to commemorate an event, anniversary or some other memorable occasion. Sometimes something was made just because. My father in law has a masonic grandfather clock which was used as a fund raiser.

I have no information on this razor but those are clearly masonic markings.

Now, where did you find the info on the shaving a mason as part of last rites? Can you provide a link to wherever it was? I'm interested to read about it.

    Thanks.

so far as I know, Masons do not have a last rites (at least in America). Nor am I aware of any shaving as part of any ritual. I won't say that the person got wrong information as Masonry is a world wide fraternity and some parts of the world might have different traditions but it's never been anything I've heard/read/seen before.

Best guess is what I said before...simple a collector's item.

Also, the etchings on the handle are not masonic emblems so I don't know if they are original scales (referring to the link you posted in response to my post).

If might be a nice display piece if it could be polished up.

Yes Masons do have a ceremony similar to what could be called last rites,it is performed at the cemetery just prior to burial. There is no last rites use of a razor.
The star of David has been used by Masons for much longer than it has been by the Jews(Jewish use dates to the middle ages)Best Regards Gary

Yeah, I wasn't really considering the memorial service a "last rites" kind of thing though but I can see where you're coming from on that. But we agree that there is no use of a razor.
