Nakayama Kiita on EBay......
Morning everyone,
Recently saw an eBay listing for a Nakayama Kiita. Claimed to be "Lv 5". I was considering bidding, but as I have read so much about JNATs being fake or sold as "Nakayama" when they aren't, I figured I post the pics of the stone here with the hopes that I could get some of our more experienced JNAT users to give me their thoughts on it.
Pics below:

He is a reliable seller that I have dealt with in the recent past, and I have no doubt that the stone is authentic. However, it is small, so I wouldn't go too high on it. 'Lv5' is relative hardness, not an indication of fineness or suitability for razors. However, all that being said, it is very likely a decent stone.

Thanked: 4249Posting question about a live auction might not work in your favor, now everybody knows, should be done in pm's.

Moved to ebay forum.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks for the vouch Sqzbxr!
Martin103, yea I honestly thought about that, but I honestly would rather have my peace of mind. Being fairly new to the forums, I've been quite the lurker lol, so I'm still learning who would be the most knowledgeable members.
On that note, I must say I have had nothing short of an amazing experience since joining this forum!
Thanks again!

If looking for a quality stone and peice of mind contact one of the reputable dealers and tell them what you are looking for and a price range. You will get a quality razor stone at a fair price.

Thanked: 4827I know nothing of Japanese hones. However when you are lurking you might want to seek out Jnat threads and take note of the people that are posting sound advice and when looking at those posters take note of how many posts they have made and then take note of how many thanks they have also. It does not guarantee you will get the best of answers in PM's but it is a way of trying to decide who to ask. I have noticed there are a couple of vendors that get recommended regularly. One of which accepts returns, and give sound advice. They are probably a better source of hones than eBay, especially if you are new to the complex world of Jnats.

Thanked: 237Yea that stone would be considered a gamble. It's more than likely a nakayama and good quality. However it's an eBay international sale, so it would only be a huge hassle if you aren't happy with it. Alex has some good kiita stones right now at thejapanstone.com under the kiita Korner.

Great advice you guys and I spent last night doing just that! I'm anxious to get my hands on one lol. Although I will admit, I am worried about becoming a HAD....I got the itch yesterday while visiting my local woodcraft store and ended up snagging the Ice Bear 8k and a CH12k along with some beautiful wood for some scales that I plan on making.
