Anyone who puts up an expensive item at a low price without a reserve is asking for a shellacking. It is possible that the item will bring the desired amount, but equally possible that the seller will lose out on his investment. I'd rather just put my desired top price in a BIN, with a best offer option if I'm willing to take less. To each his own, that is my policy.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 237Yup. I had to stop doing listings that start at 0.01 and have no reserve. I lost several hundred dollars on some really awesome razors.

People commonly pull the auctions at the last minute if they see it's not going their way. Not legal and if eboy sees you do it numerous times they can kick you out.

Thanked: 480Yea, I see it all the time. It really irritates me, so I never do it. Again, I play it by ear. I still do auctions starting at .99 Like the FBU I got going on right now.
Is there a chance it will go cheaper than I paid? sure. But I offered it up knowing that could happen, and being ok with it. Unlike the Escher where I put a high price on it from the git-go, because I refuse to allow it to go for less. Since I seldom pay top dollar for a razor (I have to really love it for that, and that means I probably wont be putting it up for sale) I am ok with not GETTING top dollar on every sale. I can usually make up for it elsewhere. Like the Hindenburg razor I sold a while back, It went for 2x more than I thought it would. That makes up for the mint Puma that sold for about 20 less than I paid for it. You win some, you lose some!
