Thanked: 1Just testing the waters
I started my first refurbish on a germania cutlery I picked up from the antique store across the road from SMKW. Very rusty and pitted with a broken scale I figured for $6 it was a perfect guinea pig. Not long after starting on it a long time friends 18 month old daughter was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer. Knowing what kind of financial toll this can take on a family the fundraisers began. I gave thought to possibly raffling off the razor when I'm done, but I'm the only person I know who has the RAD. I'm just curious how y'all think an eBay auction would go with all the proceeds going to the family. Perhaps this has been done, was it a success, or epic fail. Really any amount would be a success, just testing the water on the idea of it.

There is now way of telling how people will respond or how many will respond.
I'm not aware, at the moment, if this has been tried with a straight razor up as an auction item.
As you stated, any amount would help. Simply place the razor up on eBay, follow their guidelines on this type of transaction and donate the funds when the auction is over.

not trying to be a nay sayer, but you would be better off going the traditional routes of getting donations, like jars at convenience stores, bake sales ,, church groups, charitys will work better for the family, a 20$ razor isn't going to provide much help . its a narrow market and truthfully you could apply the time in a more successful area. all my wishes go out the family, I speak from experience having lost a child Tc

Thanked: 1You have my deepest condolences for your loss. Maybe the raffle idea would be better. Put it on display at one of the fundraisers maybe $5 tickets or something. I'm making the scales from a small mesquite log and should have enough to build a small case for it also.

There is, on facebook, a site dedicated to raffles of, primarily, shaving gear of all kinds. They do allow fundraising raffle here and there. The name is SGR$. They are a closed group but membership is easy. Carefully read their pinned post on joining and running a raffle. Good luck. I think you will find a good response. As a cancer survivor myself, I know I will buy a spot. The admins are very helpful and correspond quickly and will help you set it up.
