Thread: Razor worth the asking price?

I know Wapis are a quality razor- there is a guy selling NOS wapis on the bay for $45 including shipping from Europe. Is this a good price or should I pass?

Not really allowed appraisals. Any razor is worth what someone is willing to pay.

Saw a DD wonderedge in almost mint condition. For the price I was really considering but I felt like it was more of a collectors piece and I would be scared to shave with it. Oh well though maybe someday. Don't really know what this has to do with what your asking but thought I would share haha

Sorry I wasn't trying to go against the rules. I understand what you are saying.

One of the things you can do is look at the sold listings for Wapis on the bay.
Keep in mind that they ar not all the same and try to get your description to filter the one you want. Look at the prices others have paid and that should get you to decide how much you think is a fair price.

It depends on condition, and what you want.

While we do not give valuations, because value is in the eye of the BUYER, and often the Seller. In the end, the buyer (market) decides, and what I or you think, does not matter.

Condition, Condition, Condition. If a razor is truly NOS, New Old Stock (in new condition and never been used, or honed, and the scales are in good condition, not cracked, broken, bug eaten or cell rotted… Yea, probably worth the asking price.

Considering that a decent new razor from one of the better manufactures will run you around $200 and a poorly made Chinese razor will sell for close to $20. 45 is a decent price.

Personally, I believe that you can buy a very good razor in the 20-100-dollar price range. Better quality and condition razors in the higher price, but a $20 razor without major defect, but with cosmetic blemishes, can still provide a life time or more of stellar service. I have bought many for less and some for more…

I have been advised a number of new members and even guided some through eBay purchases on bidding.

Wapis had a very good reputation around here years ago. I seem to remember somebody finding a large lot of them and selling them off for around that same money. Then they disappeared. I never bought one.

When I was a rookie here and wanted to have someone give me a second opinion on an eBay buy, I would PM a mentor a link to the ad to see if there was anything he noticed that should stop me from buying a particular blade (e.g., poor condition, excessive hone wear, etc.). Eventually, you figure these things out on your own as you gain more experience. I hope this helps you out.

That is a good point Mark. I did that a little bit too in the beginning and have done that for others since. I think that there are quite a few here that would be happy to give more specific opinions via PM. Also there is an old thread around here somewhere called eBay 101 or something like that. I can't seem to find it tonight but if anyone else has better Google fu feel free to link it.
