manyware & altima55
I know these two ebay sellers are generally recommended here, but are their shave-ready razors truly shave ready?

For me, the term "shave ready" is very subjective. I've purchased razors from both. I've also been to Altima55's home (he lives about 5 or 6 blocks from me) and seen his shop. I don't know how manyware sharpens his razors, but Altima55 uses a Norton 4000/8000 as I recall. He's a member here and may chime in.
The razors I purchased from these sellers would give you a shave, so to be fair one could say they are "shave ready". On the other hand, I prefer my razors sharp and smooth shaving, so these razors required some tweeking for my everyday use. Now to put this into proper perspective, I have yet to receive any razor that was sharpened to my everyday use standard. Perhaps I'm just picky. How's that for a non-answer?

Thanked: 9I have bought only one razor from altima55. He was very nice and easy to deal with. With the type of hair I had, HHT was not very convincing, and the test shave was not as pleasant as I want.
I just read that he uses only Norton 4k/8k, which leaves a lot to be desired, in my book. For reference, only few of my razors have given me outstanding shaves off the 8K.
So it should not be surprising that I improved the edge with a coticule and Chromium. Not much work and effort: it was close to my understanding of shave-ready.
In numerical terms - it came to me maybe 9 or 9+ out of 10 performer. I improved it to 10/10. It is now one of my great (but not greatest) shavers. Maybe I can improve it more, when I get the time...
Cheers

I've purchased two razors from Altima55, and my experiences were similar to Ivo and John. Great razors, pretty good edges that needed a little tweaking.
I agree that "shave-ready" is subjective. My beard is very particular in its likes and dislikes.

I've purchased three razors from Altima - and agree completely with everything said above.
If you have a pasted strop, 20 laps on the .5 (followed by the .25 if you like) will really smooth out the edge.
I've notices that the prices for Altima's razors are going up - I bought my first three razors from him for under $100 shipped.

Thanked: 1I've bought five or six razors from Altima. They've all been clean and at least as good as I was expecting. However, shave-ready is a subjective term. When Lynn sharpens a razor, it's shave-ready; when you buy a razor from Bill Ellis it's shave ready.
Altima's razors have all taken some work on a pasted strop. Once, I got them going, though, they shaved nice. I need a really sharp razor for my chin and neck.

Whenever any seller says his razors are shave ready it makes me laugh. I've bought a few from altima and Manyware and none were truly shave ready. As a matter of fact to be honest the only razor I have ever gotton that was truly shave ready was my Maestro. I've had some TIs that were close but thats about it and that includes a Zowada which is advertised as shave ready but mine wasn't.
