Was thinking. As far as collecting goes, I am fond of most all of my razors. Most have a story as I collected a blade here and some scales there.
Some came from friends and some have a good memory of discovery.
Some have satisfaction of an auction won or are rewards of pursuit and purchase. Sacrifice even.
Lots of horse-trading, pinning, fixing. The joy of finding something which I had never seen, nor heard-of.
Learning of the history.
Possessing something unique which no one else has or in such a condition no one else might have.
Finally, the work of making them shave as they should and actually using them.
Were I a rich man and just bought a pile I don't think I would be as fond of them.
Like a rich man buying a fancy car. It would be just a car. Into the garage with the others.
Just a thought......

Thanked: 552Totally with you on that thought.
I would be quite surprised if he sells the entire collection as a unit - it just seems like more than anyone who isn’t a well-healed hoarder of shaving stuff could afford or want.
It appears he isn’t interested in eBay, but might turn it over to an auction house when he runs out of patience.
Some of us might have the opportunity to find something we’ve been hunting for when that happens.David

Thanked: 81I was in contact with him, I don't want to discuss our entire conversation but he's a super nice guy with a medical condition that is now preventing from using his straight razors. He's avoiding the bay and other auction sites because he doesn't want to deal with the fees and stuff, basically. He's also pretty overwhelmed with sorting through his collection that has taken him decades to amass. So for the moment he's sticking with posting small bits locally on Kijiji.
By selling his collection, he feels like he's selling his children, so he's extremely concerned that the items go to people who will appreciate them, which I understand. But I also know that he's overwhelmed with people contacting him about all the choppers in his collection, from this forum as well as others.

As far as our OCD tendencies, I know old guys with over 400 military rifles, pistols which span 150 years. Historical and rare stuff.
Things which have actually been collected. OH! it's gold! Not if the wife and kids liquidate it!
Some have waited late in life and wonder what the hell they have done?
All the old farts who lusted after their stuff are dying off or already have 15 of each and are in the same boat.
The stuff is worth less than it was a decade ago for this reason and they will put on a few at a decade-ago price and nobody buys.
I get tickled at them asking a pile for an M1 Garand when the Philippines, Turkey, and Greece have recently repatriated about 3 million of the suckers on loan after WWll and resellers are purchasing them from the gov'nor and putting them on the market.
Not gonna be worth what the collectors paid for them any more. Why did they have to have 25 of the damn things?
Watching this stuff happen, I have kept my Milsurp collection to 5 rifles which are of the cheaper, more common stuff.
I don't care about matching numbers or what someone else has. Just enough to own some history and all being in good shape to go out and shoot without having to reload exotic calibers.
I have seen the razor thing go full circle also. Selling off duplicates was the first thing I decided to do. About done with that. Have sold some which I could never find again and have had the pleasure of owning for a while. No desire to own another.
Now I am chillin' with what I have and am happy to enjoy it. Someday soon, I will teach my middle daughter how to list them on ebay should something happen to me. I always say if you like it....It's for sale!
This pile of razors will be a glut on the market someday. Prices will go down I expect.
Of course if you want every razzer you see....Buy the damn things!
