Thread: eBay sellers, don’t you just love them

Here is a new usage for the phrase “"Very Good" condition” at least one that I was currently unaware of.

Am I missing something here being a newbie?

I've seen worse but this one at least qualifies for "in one piece".

I think 'well used' might apply. One of the things I've learned about ebay is to check out the vendor's prior sales. If he/she hasn't any experience with razors, they couldn't tell you the actual condition, quality, or give any other info of value. . . . even if they wanted to.

I just got a very good condition C-mon razor that includes warped scales with a very loose tang and microchips (hell, visible ones).
I frickin' love the blade though, so I won't complain about the seller in this case.

I sent the following message to the seller:
Dear jablack.2007,

With a starting bid of $95 I'll be surprised if you get any. Looks like it'll stay a part of history.


His response? A brilliant example of ebay prose:

The fact that is it extremely OLD and has alot of value to it. And the fact that it is no long made and is over 59 years old and in PREFECT cond. I'm not going to start the bid out at 10 bucks.

My last stab at making sense to him:

Dear jablack.2007,

Since this appears to be your first eBay auction I'm going to write this up as a simple lack of experience. Stick around and watch, you'll learn. This razor in it's current condition is worth nowhere near what you think it is. FYI: ALL vintage razors are old. With a few exceptions (Dove, TI, etc) none are still being made. This razor appears to be in average condition for a W&B.

If you want to increase your odds of a successful sale (one that people actually bid on) here are a few tips:

1. More pics
2. Better pics
3. Start the auction at a reasonable figure. Razors that are actually worth over $200 start out low. Trust me on this one, if it's worth it and you post good pics it won't sell for a lot less.

I've looked a bit at the straight razors being sold in ebay stores. There really seems to be no connection between price asked and quality of the razors sometimes, like this. $220 for a thin Henckels with stains and rust, a box for a different razor, and black unmarked scales?

In the seller's defense, he did state that the razor is "very old".

Looks like he came down on the price a bit. I'm still not sure if he gets the hang of this whole "ebay" thing yet though.

Relisted and adjusted I guess he figured he priced it $272 too high first time around.

Mr. Black is quickly becoming a professional !

I guess he is well known all over the world by now for keeping up the value of good shaving equipment and other old rubbish?

So he went from overpriced by $272 to under priced by at least $25, LOL.
