    There seem to be two types of framebacks. There's the type where the tang and shank go over into the frame, with the blade stuck into it. And there the type (as in that ebay auction) where you've basically got a spineless straight razor with a metal frame opposite the edge.

    That second type actually looks a bit weird to me. Is it so they could make the grinding process easier? Rather than grinding a wedge into a hollow, they can just work on a flat piece of metal and then hammer a collar into place...

    Any theories about the two variants?
