Just won this...thoughts?
Hi guys, I'm relatively new to this forum, but I wanted to see what you guys thought of this razor. I purchased it for my father as he loves antiques, and new things make ordinary gifts to him. So...I won. and paid $37 for it.

Leme know, thanks in advance
Forgot to mention, he won't be shaving with it, more as a novelty item.

I can't speak as to the value of the razor, but I'm kinda sad to see her going into retirement.

Thanked: 13246I have almost the same razor in a 5/8 size,
The price is not bad at all, I wouldn't let mine go for that!!! (it is way to nice a blade)
BTW they are really good shavers when honed up and stropped up, they have a fairly heavy grind so they basically wipe whiskers off yer face, to bad that one won't be used....
I'll post a pic when I get home....

You happened to buy from a very reputable seller. Altima55 sells very clean and keen razors.

Haha, well I'm thinking he won't be using it. But you never know, I personally would, but I'm still waiting to hear back from a great person on this forum regarding my first purchase.
I do wish I knew how old it was. The auction said between 1821-1854. But, I'd say that's pretty vague, then again with something this old, I can expect it to be vague. Let me know what you guys think. I can take more detailed pictures when it arrives and post'em if you guys want?
I was also wondering if someone knew the value of this old razor?

Thanked: 13246From the pics I don't see the Sons on there but there is an S if there is no "and Sons" the dates are pretty accurate... If that S is a Sons the dates open up even more, you will have to see when you get it..

thanks gssixgun. I will certainly check it out, and let you know what the S / Sons part reads. If you have any links or websites that pertain to this particular make that would be awesome. Also, I will definitely take some pictures and post them when I get it next week. Stay tuned

Thanked: 13246As promised here is my "Elliots"
Distributed by Wolff & Lane, a Joseph Elliot's Best Silver Steel, This one I re-scaled....It says Real Hollow Ground Razor, but it is still a very stiff grind perhaps 1/4 grind at the most... Nice comfortable shaver if you like the stiffer grinds......
