Something wrong?
Is there a reason to stay away from this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130194095423
The reason I ask is that (as a newbie) I'm looking not just to get into shaving with a straight razor (which I have sort of done - but that's another story) but that I would like to be restoring, sharpening and honing on my own as well.
To that end, my father informed me that he purchased a Norton Waterstone Starter kit from Rockler Friday night.
So I'm wondering if adding this Genco to my list of razors to work on is a bad idea / I should stay away?
Thanks in advance (and please don't snipe me - as I am also planning to snipe - JBidwatcher is my friend....)

Looks like a good razor to me!
I have noticed that people on ebay are a little skiddish when it comes to bidding from someone who has a low feedback count!
I would bid on it myself but I have plenty of razors!

It looks as though it might have a fair bit of honewear (the spine seems flattened, and the razor appears to get narrower towards the tip), but other than that, it seems to be in good shape. Certainly worth restoring, it probably won't need much work beyond maas and cape cod polishing cloths.
Just remember that you might not be the only one sniping it (though I'm not going for it), so set your bid accordingly.

Thank You. Snipe set for $12 (I'm not willing to spend too much more for adding more stuff for me to do...)

Thanked: 13249Really nice looking razor, and the brand Genco is a fine maker...I would ask for a close up of the spine as you cant tell how much wear there is but I would bid on that one regardless the edge looks good.... Good Luck!!!!

Well, as I said previously, it's really for a personal restoration toy.... Something for me to learn on and maybe restore...
As of now, I have a Case Red Imp (that I restored to semi-shaving with just a pair of Lansky Crock Sticks and an improvised strop and then re-chipped the edge! DOH!) And I also have a Henckels that I've been playing with that seems to be deeply pitted (and maybe not a good restoration project...)
And I have ordered a shave ready wapi from Mike Ratliff...
I'm about to wipe the balance of my PayPal account with an order in to Tony...
Just a newbie and already bit hard...
Pictures and the full story to show up in the newbie's forum sometime soon....

I bought a very similar one about a month ago. Great shaver and takes an edge very well.
I sort of just dove in with a few eBay razors. I too started off with a great razor from Mike and added others from ebay. I find now I seldom use the one from Mike just because I like the satisfaction I get from using something I found, cleaned up and sharpened myself. At the rate I'm going I would be hard-pressed to ever buy a brand-new razor, the old ones just have "character"!
Go figure.....

oh darn... after some advice here, I decided to up my snipe bid to $15... and with 6 seconds left, someone else sniped it. I guess I can take consolation in that kenrup missed out on this one too...
