Kamisori? Anybody heard of this?
I noticed this item on ebay. A blued new 5/8 Solingen made straight on ebay. With a buy it now of $89.95 and starting bid of $49.95, I thought it might be a decent first razor for newbies. I know that for over a month now I haven't been able to snare one yet on the B/S/T forum. I am very pleased to see any new outlet for modern day straights.
In partnership with a well respected company in Solingen, Germany - Kamisori is
proud to add fine straight razors to its cutting tool line-up.

Thanked: 1From my understanding, those are just rebranded Dovo's.

You might search through the archives. There was a lady who worked for Kamisori who sent a few to our senior members for review. The results weren't all that stellar, but that was probably over a year ago.
If they're selling rebranded Dovos, why not just buy a Dovo?

If memory serves, the Kamisori's weren't bad, but they're entry level Dovos being sold at a much higher price point ie a 50$ Dovo being marketed as a 80 or 90$ model.
In other words, the initial bidding price is as much as it's actually worth, the BIN price isn't. That is... if my memory is correct.

I bought that model brand new on sale for $59 at the end of 2007.....I never did get a chance to use it but it looked and felt nice. I PIF'd it to a fellow new member who was sending it off to Lynn for proper honing last I heard.....

$100 DD's???
Have razor prices sky rocketed that much? Seems like every time I try to snag a Dubl Duck it goes for well over 250. I'm praying to the good Lord above for a DD on E-bizzle now. We'll see how it goes. All I know is that this damn thing better be worth every penny. Oh, and to stay on topic, I have a really old kamisori coming in that I paid $5 for. I'll hone it up and let you know how it goes... If anybody is interested anyway.

Thanked: 43My first razor was a Kamisori that I bought of eBay.
I had absolutely no experience with any straight razor and probably never even held one in my hands. But I could tell immediately that it was rubbish when I took it out of the box.
Warped blade, crappy plastic scales and rivets, when you try to close the blade it is almost impossible not to get stuck in the scales even when guiding it with your fingers.
So eventually I never shaved them and use the now and the to open a letter. I have never touched any Zeepk razor but that is how I imagine them to be, like a Kamisori.
On the other hand the Kamisori strops that came along with my order are exactly like the Dovo strop (Yes, I got an original Dovo strop as well for comparison).
Same materials, square rings stitching etc. Like two drops of water except for the stamped logo.
Lately I haven seen many Kamisori items on eBay in comparison with Zeepk (Maybe the joined forces?? Oh no...
Apparently Kamisori also makes/sells barber shears, some of them look nice on screen but with the "knowledge" I have now there is no hair on my cheek thinking of buying a Kamisori again.
My advice would be to save up a bit more and stick to the well respected brands.
