Thanked: 3795Real Swaty or stupid counterfeit?
I have 6 Swatys. Maybe I should sell a few? Anyway, I found this odd one today.
So, is this somehow for real?

I'd guess it's a fake, but I don't really know.
PS If you want to unload one for a fair price, I'd be happy to help.Last edited by holli4pirating; 04-05-2008 at 04:58 AM.

Thanked: 9It's a later / newer one, and suposedly they wanted to show that they are as good as the original 3-line one - because barbers believed the older 3-liners were better than the newer 2-liners. IIRC, the father started the 3-line, then the son (or sons) did a 2-line version, and then went back to the 3 lines (like the one here)
all this *may* be bs, of course
Cheers

There was a "Pike Swaty hone" or something along those lines on ebay a few weeks back too. I guess it's possible the Swaty family sold their name for use by other companies as well? I know Pike made other barber hones too...
The "real" Swaty hones say "Franz Swaty" (or Franc, if you get one made when the business was passed on to Franz's son), and then zero, one or two lines and then "Marbug, Austria", for a total of two to four lines. I think.
