I suspect they are real but they are 90 dollars each, not for all six! Too much for me!

My guess is they're legit. Even so, I agree $90 for a single barber hone is way too much. The promotional literature at the time may or may not have been accurate; but even giving the claims the literature makes the benefit of the doubt, abrasive technology has come so far since. Plus in my limited experience with barber hones (I have three), for me the natural polishing stones like the coticule, Thuringian stones and the Chinese 12K put a better shaving edge on my razors. Granted, I have used the natural polishing stones more than the barber hones I have but my point is, the promo makes it sound like those are the holy grail of hones and........I don't think there is such a thing.

Well, I wasn't going to say anything, but in all fairness, you're right. Ok, ok, I'm just kiddin.

No, I really believe that's one of the things that makes what we're into so great. If there WAS a holy grail stone, I think this would be a bit mundane. There are so many cool combinations to mix and match in grit progressions, so many different kinds of steel and razor conditions, so many different faces and skin types, etc. You get what I mean.

It would be kind of cool to list some potential stone progression recommendations for newer members and maybe classify them as inexpensive to expensive, etc.

    Inexpensive examples:

Norton 4000/8000, Chinese 12K and Chromium pasted strop.
DMT D8E, Fine Grit Barber Hone, Chinese 12K, Chromium pasted strop.

    Expensive example:

Shapton Ceramic on glass 2000, 4000, 8000, 16,000, Chromium pasted strop.

Of course the few examples above don't factor in speed of honing or lack thereof, etc, but maybe a sticky on some options and their approximate total cost would be kind of a neat reference.

The Little Devil hones are known to be a coarse hone suitable for removing minor nicks and establishing the bevel. They are not suitable for fine honing like an 8K. $90 is way to much. $15-20 would be more realistic.

    Hope this helps,
