DD Goledge for $350+??
DD Goldedge
Ok, I understand it's from altima55. I've bought a blade from him and it was excellent. Nothing against him at all. He's A+++ in my book.
And it's a Dubl Duck. I've heard no bad about them.
But $377?? I'm sorry, but I've never really liked the look of the scales to begin with. Do they really shave that well?? I'm making a flea market run with my buddy and my wife and I'll be sure to look for them. If nothing else, just to sell them
edit: and I realize the subject line is a typo...drat! :-PLast edited by D2T; 04-18-2008 at 10:00 PM.

Thanked: 13246
Sometimes people do crazy things!!!! yes they are great shavers , but that is NUTZ....
There are at least 15 Goldedge's on e-bay right now, I just got another one for $28 last week that is due for restore next week.... but $377 is high even for a Wonderedge.... Which I think is part of the problem that there are Soooooooooo many new collectors out there that don't even know the difference.... (yeah, yeah I know about the thread that says there isn't any) so they just are bidding high on any DD they see.....
But as the saying goes, "let the buyer beware" I just hope they are not SRP members!!!!

hence the 525.28 for a goldedge, i hear the price of gold is up, oh wait there's no gold left on this one
btw a bill ellis was selling perfectly restored wonderedge for 250 just few weeks ago
interestingly the winner has feedback of 3, none in the last 3 months... i wonder if bob will get any money out of this transaction, but of course everybody's presumed innocent until found guilty

I think I'll only ever spend that much on a custom razor! Saw some nice custom RW's on shavingshop.com a few days ago, very tempting but I'm trying not to run the CC up too much higher!
This one is absolutely sick

Absolutely nuts that that Goldedge with no goldwash left went for $525. That's about $400 too much in my book, but I'm not the buyer. Sometimes ya just can't beat being a seller on Ebay.
I've sold some vinyl albums on Ebay, mainly albums in good condition but definitely not mint nor highly sought after collectibles. I couldn't get over how much some people paid for some of them.
What peeves me about the occasional wildly overpaid razor, is then I've got to hear some antique store owner justify the price of a crappy condition razor with the "I saw one like this on Ebay sell for.............$xxxx a few weeks back" kind of thing.
To me, Ebay does NOT accurately reflect what I consider to be the commonly accepted value of something since someone somewhere in the world for some reason will pay any amount of money to buy one item.
Just because Johnny Johnson and Clark Griswald both from Anywhere and Anywho USA respectively, dropped their grandpa's Torrey (their grandpa's favorite razor) when they were kids ruining the razors, and coincidentally both Johnny and Clark happen to see, to their disbelief, that the same razor is selling on Ebay and both are determined to ensure that grandpa truly rests in peace and end up bidding a 5/8 Torrey slick black back and forth until Clark wins the razor for $400 does NOT mean Torreys are worth $400!!!
Ok, Ok I'm done venting. Thanks for listening.

Actually I think Eboy is a pretty good barometer as to what things are worth. Most bidders know what to bid on item excluding of course the now and then bidding war between two guys. A few years ago I said the reason razors were so cheap as compared to prices on the knife sites were that collectors hadn't discovered straights yet. I am afraid that day is upon us. Its starting with the recognizeable brands and pieces in really good shape but I'm afraid this will begin to spread.
I hope a few years from now we won't be talking about the good old days when you could get a Goldedge for $400.00.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Well, all I have to say is I've got a chance of seeing and making an offer on approx 20 vintage razors the seller says are "mint" and I believe include many of the older high end names within the next month and at this point regarding the seller and whatever his idea may be for a fair price I'm simply chanting in internal mantra: "Please don't look at Ebay, Please don't look at Ebay, Please........."

Thanked: 4Agree completely Bruce... I suffered from FAD a few years ago and was probably guilty of paying a little too much for a couple of the second hand pieces I had in my collection.
Lucky for me... and I hope it doesnt happen to you guys (shouldnt think it would) the australian goverment developed are far far greater case of FAD than I ever had...
When the well celebrated "buy back" scheme was operating here the prices they were offering for busted-ass old guns was unbelieveable... I unloaded all my old junk for about 4x what i paid
Kept the good stuff though
Sorry guys... this was about ducks wasnt it?
