Thread: krieger for $37

With the prices of razors on the bay shooting up looks like some people bid up this krieger here. Maybe they don't realize it's a krieger despite the etching on the blade it's not mentioned in the auction, thats the highest I've seen one so far.

Now that is crazy.

Are those razors actually worth anything? They look like cheap nothing-worth pakistani-razors to me...

Buyer got owned.

I purchased one of these about 5 months ago as a test entry blade. It is almost 1" wide and the pins are 1/8" diameter instead of 1/16".

After using it for a few shaves I sent it to one of SRP's hone/sharpen experts. The poor fellow gave up on it since it was too thick with no bevel to hone to a fine edge. It is listed on the bad buys along with Paki's. The scales are pretty but the oversized pins ruin them for easy cannibalizing.

The buyer has a nice razor-KNIFE as it has been classified in previous sales presentations.

Pity about the scales though: I really like this one:

Haw! I am so glad that I found this place before purchasing a razor. It should be mandatory for anyone wanting to take up the hobby, browse this board for at least a week!

It's really too bad about the scales, because I really like some of the designs and had hoped at one point, to buy a few, just for the scales. They have tons of listings for "buy in now"'s at under ten bucks, and I had thought, paired with a restored old blade, it would make a nice semi-custom. I'm glad I read this thread though! More useful and money saving advice from an SRPer! Thanks!

Yup. I was coveting those scales too. It is a pity. Why make so many variants of esthetically pleasing scales, if you are only going to wrap them around a sh**ty blade? Seems rather pointless to me.

I dread the thought of some well meaning father, who wants to start his son out right with straight shaving, and thinking this might be the way to start him out. Let's all hope that hasn't happened much, if at all! These brands give straight shaving a bad name. It almost makes me think they were manufactured by Gillette for nefarious reasons. Like, say ooooh, making people think straight shaving hurts and gives bad shaves, and that's why multi blades came along. To improve on what we all know is NOT improvable. It's like saying a square shape would make a better wheel.
