Thread: I think I did pretty well...

...and want to say so to people who might care.

I just picked up this set:

Looks like it was someone's medicine cabinet. Mainly I wanted the Swaty, but there's a couple of razors I can experiment with restoring on (and a third I'll probably pass on trying to restore). All told, I think I got a pretty good deal, even before I turn around and try to resell some of the items I don't want.

Now if only my tax refund check would come so I can get those more expensive things taken care of...

That Keen Kutter looks nice. I think between that razor and the Swaty, you paid a decent price. And, like you said, you can practice on the red point. Maybe you can even recondition the old strop? Everything else IMO looks pretty much useless. Fun thing to look forward to when you get them in the mail no doubt.

Frankly, I was expecting to be outbid (seeing what things go for both here and on e-bay). I'm kind of surprised I won.

I saw that last night and set the snipe, I figured It would go higher than my snipe what with a swaty and all but was hoping.



I'm glad you got it ,......now I dont have to explain that charge to the wife...

That's great. The only two bidders both expected to lose. What was the seller doing wrong? (Well, besides setting the auction to end Monday morning... that's probably step one.)

That and I don't think he posted his descriptions very well. A short search on ebay and he would have seen people going nuts for a swaty, that and the strops I would have made bigger mention of than the razors. It looks like you might have two decent razors the third one in the pic especially. The top razor looks like it might be chipped at the heel and the toe looks to changed. Sometimes I guess its seller beware as well as buyer beware. When it comes in let us know how it looks.

hmm, 2-line swaty in what looks like great condition, two useable razors, and 2 strops, for 50 bucks shipped, i'd say it's not a bad price.
the top razor goes to the junk bin - you could use the scales, which may be bone
if the strops are usable and the swaty turns out as good as it looks you've done quite well, if the leather of the strops is rotted you've learned a cheap lesson

both the keenkutter and the red point are well past their prime and quite poorly honed. I really dislike blades narrower at the point than at the heel, but they certainly work once they are honed.

anyways, let us know how the strops are when you get them
