Thanked: 1587While I'm glad it is staying in the family, as it were, and that it's gone to a good home with Mike, I'm wondering why all the fuss in the first place? Someone buys one, drops off the boards, needs to get some cash or just doesn't use it any more, and flogs it on ebay. Is there something in the contract of sale that states they must remain in the possession of active SRP members? I remember when Bill Ellis dropped off these boards - I believe he wanted to sell his at that time - what number did Bill own?
I mean, taking this to extremes, all you guys who own razors that say "For Barber's use" need to get them back to a barber asap (unless of course you are a barber, in which case use it in good health!)

I don't know if the "first place" refers to me, as I first posted the thread, but maybe I'll just try to answer what makes me post it:
1) I don't think there is anything in the contract of sale (I don't even think there is one) asking for the razor to remain in the hands of an SRP member; but why asking in the first place the buyer to give his SRP member name to order one? 'cause this special edition was designed - if I am not mistaken - to by bought only by members of SRP, as something like a group order for members for commemoration purpose.
2) I can understand that somebody want to sell his SRP razor, and can have thousand very good reasons to do so, but why not doing it in the BST? we have one, lets use it.
3) I am not saying anything about the buddy who is buying this stuff, only about the one selling it. I don't think that if a non member buy an SRP razor, he must return it to a member, as I don't think that somebody who buys a razor "for barber's use only" must return it to a barber, but only that it is just a little sad that the barber who sold his razor couldn't pass it to his follower, apprentice, colleague... (I know, I'm a little too romantic maybe...)
I just thought it could be good for this razor to be owned by another SRP member, just to respect why this razor was made and sold, to celebrate the foundation of the blog by Lynn... and, as it is only a limited edition (and we are now more than 5'000 members) to let a member who may not have the financial means to buy a new one, have a second hand... I didn't want to create any fuss, and I am sorry if I offended anyone.

Thanked: 1587Sorry Ockham - when I said "in the first place" it was just a term of speech. I didn't mean the original post or anything like that.
I actually think it's cool that people feel strongly about it - obviously there's a lot of committed and loyal members here. I was just curious as to why the sale on ebay invoked the reaction it did - I guess because of that loyalty and commitment.

Thanked: 3Nice one. I hope to acquire an SRP LE razor some day along with a Classicshaving.com founder's razor and a TI silverwing razor. Maybe I'll get the founder's razor and silverwing razor next year or something. Would like TI to make more SRP razors.
