Thanked: 7Just acquired this Genco off ebay...
GENCO GOLD SEAL STRAIGHT SHAVING RAZOR - OLD VINTAGE - eBay (item 140235770029 end time May-31-08 18:54:00 PDT)
I just won the auction for this one. I don't actually know too much about the vintage razors, but I wanted to get a couple of inexpensive ones to practice restoring and honing up and such.
What do you guys think of it? Are they pretty good for shaving with? (I already currently shave with a Dovo I got as a Christmas gift from Vintage Blades).
Thanks All

Looks like you got a good deal. A lot of people talk about the Genco's and that they are good shavers. I haven't used one but I can tell you that since its marked Geneva it was made in Geneva NY before 1935. Thats when they were sold to Case and were marked Bradford PA after that.

Great price for a great razor! I collect the Genco's (probably have 10 or 12) and I like them all. My favorite right now is the "Old Dutch" model that I purchased here on the BST. I don't think you'll be disappointed once you clean her up and get her honed!! Nice grab!!!
And Welcome to SRP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanked: 13246Genco's /Geneva's are one of the top rated of the American steels, you cant go wrong with them...
That one is going to take some restore, the toe end wedge is out of line if you look close, not a big fix but it needs to be fixed, from the pic angle the toe of the razor needs a little more attention, but that could be pic angle.... The only person that takes worse pics then e-bay sellers is me
All in all you have made a nice purchase on that one, and with a small amount of work she will turn out great....
Nice catch!!!! And welcome aboard the straight train

Thanked: 10One of the most pleasant surprises I received was in a Genco Wedge that I bought on ebay. The thing has bright green clear scales and shaves like a dream. It is only 5/8" wide and is great for finishing the tough areas. I since learned that just because it has gaudy scales, to me, that doesn't rule out the possibility of being a great razor.

I have to post a clarification of crichton's statement. He collects ALL razors - and that 10 or 12 number is just ludicrous in light of the number of razors he has....
However, the most honest statement he has made to date has to be that "I like them all...."
Me thinks he's not just referring to Gencos....

Thanked: 7Heheh thanks for all the great comments guys. What do you recommend for touching up that toe angle (I noticed that myself and figured that was just going to be a lot of patience with a norton 4000/8000 stone and a small level ).
