Puma 10 4/8 worth ?
How much would this set be worth ? It's on sale on eBay. Razor w/ case + strop:
I'm hesitating to buy it, 'cause I don't have a need for the strop.
But I do want a Puma and this one looks okay to me, a newbie
Is this a collectable Puma ?

I am really curious as to what this would be worth as well. To me it sure seems like eBay is the current standard for what a razor is worth. Where else are so many being continually sold? I don't mean to be master of the obvious, but I think the winning bid will probably determine its worth outside of a wild bidding war. How else can a straight razor be currently valued?
I'd pay no more than $5 for it. Look at the rust Nice razor box thoughFind me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

It has a Buy it Now price of a lot more then 5$... 38 Euros = +- 60 $us.
Definitely too much for this one ?
Problem is... all the Pumas is see pass on eBay go for a lot more even
When one is posted here (or any other for that matter), seems to me it's sold within a few minutes... and because of the time difference it's mostly at the time when it's in the middle of the night over here.

I do a search within the shaving category for Puma or whatever. Then I look on the column page left and check completed listings and show items. That is a good way to get an idea. OTOH, on ebay anything can happen.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The razor can easily be saved provided the rust is mostly superficial, once the rust is removed there may be pitting, hard to tell without seeing it up close and personal. I'd ask alot of questions. As for the strop I would turn around and resell it on the bay ,maybe it would go and help pay for your purchase. But i definately would not pay as much as the buy it now price. 30 usd tops for a razor that needs slight work, with the possibility of having to sand pits, even that is high. make your max bid and avoid a bid war, if a sucker wants to fight you for it let them win(lose). more pics of both sides,up close, would help.

is it me or does most of the corrosion seem to be in areas covered by the scales? i know cell rot is rare with black scales... but i had a puma like the one in the pic last summer that the blade below the scales was corroded and light sandpaper revealed holes through the blade... been leery of rusty puma's ever since.
Be just and fear not.

I don't know about the rarity of cell rot with black scales, but that the studies seem to indicate that light-colored celluloid is prone to rotting sooner. As far as I understand it, celluloid will corrode away eventually regardless of its color. I had some black scales that were doing this to an eBay blade, but it's hard to compare it to the photo of this one in question - I'd think there'd be some rust near the pivot area as well but I don't see it

Thanked: 0This is a wedge blade, as far as I know the only wedge Puma made.
I bought a genuine NOS in April for euro 69 ($106 at current rate) so this should give you an approximate idea.
Great shaver, identical to Heljestrand #24.
Cheers
