Your advice please
I won this razor and it arrived earlier this week: Joseph Rodgers Straight Razor Hallmarked Sheffield on eBay, also, Barber Shop Shaving, Vanity Perfume Grooming, Collectables (end time 01-Jun-08 19:08:24 BST)
Razor seems unused but has lot of grime on blade, little or no rust around shoulder but nowhere near the cutting edge and only superficial. 6/8 blade is full wedge on one side and slightly ground on the other side (bit like Japanese razors). Scales are in mint condition.
Here's my problem: I love razor boxes. In the picture the box looks new. The box I got is different from picutered, and in bad condition, cap belongs to a different box.
Seller agreed to take the razor back and give me a refund.
What would you do: keep the razor and ask for a partial refund or send it back? I don't use razors that have no box. I keep my razors in the bathroom and found that boxes offer excellent protection against rust in slightly humid condtions.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Most ebay sellers think they are just selling an old razor and the box doesn't matter. As far as they are concerned its just a container. When time to ship, it's stuffed in the nearest box.
I've also seen sellers who list many razors. In one auction a razor is listed with an incorrect box. But in another auction by the same seller the box is listed with a different razor.
They're just ignorant... a razor with a matched box in good condition adds to the collectible value.
If you want THAT box You could explain that you are a collector of vintage razors and it is very important you have the matching box.
Ask her kindly to contact the person who now has the box. OR give you the contact info for that person and negotiate.
If you just want a razor box in good condition there are many selling on ebay for a few dollars... or you could post a request in BST.

Thanked: 2209What you have is a microtome blade. It was used in medical labs to cut tissue sample for microscopic examination.
