Default altima55's blades: Shave with it or send it to be honed first?

    Hello

I actually am bidding on a razor auction by Altima55. I won't tell you wich one so you won't outbid me

Should I get it shipped directly to me and shave with it directly or it would be best to send it to someone that would sharpen and hone it?

It would be my first straight.

I have always heard he prehones his blades so you should be good to go.

In the past I've bought a couple of his razors. I found them close to being shave ready but they could be improved upon.

I'm not sure if I've had 1 or 2 of his razors, but i found no fault in his honing. For those preferring something a little sharper, you would most likely need a pasted strop to get there.

    Thanks to all.

I think I'll get a starter kit from Kenrup and when I'll be able to hone my own razors (read: when I'll have the cash to buy honing material) I'll get some better razors.

Just paid my college semester this morning, it hurts.

I'd say go for it. He used to be a pretty active member in the old days of the forum.
    I'd risk it, anyway.

+1 on the paste if you want a little bit better shave. I feel that they are good when you get them. I believe he said he finishes them on a 12k stone.
