Thread: Another duck under the radar?

It was marked Bresnick and carbon Steel Solingen, that's it. Went for $37.00. A bargin? We'll see.

Since you have a flock of em, I figure you are the man for this question: Would you say there is a difference in shave quality between the bresnick, bresduck, pearlduck razors?

I only have one Pearlduck, so I don't have a real point of reference. I just know my Special No.1 shaves very well. I read from someone (probably you heh), that they were only an importer/distributer, not a manufacturer.

Well, the mystery of the ages would be who made them. We know there are Puma Ducks and we know about the French Ducks but the others could be one manufacturer or many. I find they all shave about the same meaning very good. The only one I find isn't quite up to snuff is the Rooster Duck which isn't a duck at all but a very early Bresnick possibly made in the U.S. It acually shaves very well however I find it does not hold an edge as long as the others.

You have to realize Bresnick started out sometime after WW1 selling barber supplies and the 3 companies extended through the 1970s so thats alot of razors of differing types they all sold. I can't believe they had one supplier. probably many but really amazing they all shave so great. Not a dud in the group. So in answer to your question whether its a duck or a nick I think they are all equally great.

When you say "we" know there are the various Ducks it is news to me and very interesting news. Can you tell me if there is a resource where I can find out more about the history of the Dubl Duck razors? I am particularly interested in how to know a Puma Duck should I run across one. I am aware that the Bresduck stamp is older then the Pearlduck but beyond that I am in the dark.

One of the members here had an old catalog from pearlduck but I don't remember who it was. I really don't know of any real resource for this.

If you develop an interest in this stuff and you follow it on Eboy after a while you see the variety of stuff out there. I always think I know all the models and new ones always turn up.

The Puma Ducks you can tell because they say Puma on them. Thats the neat thing about these. They are all marked as to what they are.

It doesn't hold an edge long including "Lifetime Rooster"?
