Thanked: 0New to razors. I have a Dubl Duc Grim Reaper
I have been searching for information on this razor for a while so I thought I would try here. eBay Forums: Need help with an old Dubl Duck ...
I have tried Ebay and its not going so well. I am very new to straight razors and basically I have no clue! The blade has no rust, but it does have about an 1/8" nick. The hadles are in excellent condition. If anybody has any idea what Im sitting here looking at I would appreciate any input. Thanks so much

Thanked: 13245Reaper!!!
Yer pics on e-bay show a really nice set of scales but the pic that interests people here is the nick in the blade and whether it can be fixed, The blade looks to be perhaps a 5/8 maybe less so taking out a 1/8 nick might be getting into the belly of the blade... check out the Daffy Ducks thread in the razor clubs forum for some there also... In excellent condition a Reaper brings a pretty penny...
If yer looking to sell it let me know, I am doing a complete restore on one for a member here, and his has a good blade... I might could see if he wants to buy the scales from yers and solve both of yer problems.....

That particular dubl duck with the grim reaper seems to be a lot more rare and desirable than other ducks. That nick is pretty deep, I don't know whether or not its salvagable - probably so but at the cost of a lot of metal

Thanked: 79+1 to the others.
Ducks are prized primarily for the somewhat legendary status of their blades. Your Reaper looks quite nice, except the very part people would be purchasing it for is damaged possibly beyond use.
It happens. There is the offer above, of course, or you could wait until another one pops up with crappy scales and a great blade, and make a good razor from the set. Beyond that, prices are subjective, especially with Ducks. I have Wonderedges I've paid hundreds for, only to see them drop back to the (somewhat) reasonable range, then back up again...and I also sold a few Satinedges that went for surprisingly(to me) more than I would have expected.
If it were ME....I would hoard the razor and wait til I could find a beater one with bad scales, and fix i so I could shave with the thing. However, if you are looking at it as a business proposition, I would sell to someone who needs the scales, as it is not likely to fetch much on eBay in present condition, IMHO.
Many of the people snatching these up these days intend to shave with the razor.
Hope this helps?

Thanked: 79It does happen, though...
After all...I got one. It needs scales badly but I was beat to the punch on that one. They do pop up just not always in great shape. There was a time one seldom saw a wonderedge, and now it seems those are popping up every week.
Patience....
The man is half way to owning a legend, he just needs a blade for it.
