    Default Is it just me....

or the seller doesn't seem to know too much:

Vintage Kikuhitomoji Japanese Straight Razor - eBay (item 270253435267 end time Jul-10-08 16:39:45 PDT)

I've only seen one japanese razor in person, but this one certainly looks improperly honed. And I love the quote:

    • I have used this razor myself and it shaves flawlessly. I have disinfected/sanitized the blade.
    • It is not quite shave-ready right now but it shouldn't take much to get there.
First, how can a 'not quite shave-ready' razor shave flawlessly, and you've gotta love 'expert' opinion of what it takes to get razor to shave right. For God's sake if you are so certain that it doesn't take much, why don't you just go ahead and do it, instead of making excused?
Oh, well at least he can take pretty pictures

I am the seller. The reason I wrote the listing that way is because I don't have my hones or the razor on me. I'm traveling and wouldn't be the one to ship the razor. Since I'm not home and someone else is handling the razor, I don't want to guarantee a perfect edge. For all I know, she could nick the edge on something when she ships it. I didn't want to go through that whole explanation on eBay but I could change the listing.

As for the honing, I didn't do that. Since I couldn't correct it and it hasn't affected shaving, I didn't mention it. I tried to give reasonably detailed photos and let the buyer decide. I'm not trying to mislead anyone.

I am glad to see this actually, because the pictures will be perfect for my future Japanese razor honing tutorial. It shows both poor honing and poor maintenance.

The owner knows absolutely nothing about Japanese razors. He sharpened it using all the wrong angles. He sent it to me to fix. I tried to correct it but so much metal had been removed already that I let it go. He told me to put it on eBay for him. It has shaved well but it's certainly not for the display case.
