Default What do you guys think of...

This razor, I seen a mate to it on another post in the Razors section and then happened across this one on ebay

Vintage Cattaraugus Green Lizard Straight Razor w/Box - (eBay.ca item 290244601886 end time 15-Jul-08 21:15:40 EDT)

Certainly is cool looking, but I don't know how much this would be worth?

What it's worth to you might not be the same as what it's worth to me....
I will be honest with you though, I am going to snipe it, if at all possible....... That puppy has been locked and loaded since day 1

You just have to decide exactly how much your willing to spend to own each razor, set yer bid and walk away from them.... The trick is the walk away part...

Some you pay way too much for, others you get away with great buys, it all evens out in the wash

I bet it's worth way less to you than it is to mr 6gun.... You can still try, but I wouldn't hold my breath

Snipe away, I put my max in and whatever you feel like paying over that it's yours. I'm beginning to collect way too many straights anyway, so says my wife.

Very cool razor. It would make a great fraternal twin to my round point I posted in the show and tell (the one you've referenced the link to). If I wasn't elbow deep in sinking money into completing my 2"x72" grinder, I'd be all over this one as well. You guys can breathe a little easier knowing I don't have the funds to bid on this one.

Since I've got a similar razor though, I definitely and WATCHING this razor to see how it goes. It's cool that the one on auction has a box; mine doesn't.

    Winning bid:US $124.72
Out of my price range. I guess it's back on the lookout.

Dang, no one sniped that one??? If the winning bid was $124.72, that was the highest bid about 3 hours before the end when I checked last. That surprises me. Or, maybe the highest bid when I checked was $124 something and there was one sniper?

Interesting that Standard Guide to Razors 3rd Edition shows a crappier Green Lizard worth $120 and this one on auction in much better condition with a box goes for a few bucks more. I guess it supports some arguments that the Razor guide's values really don't mean much at all.

I thought this one would have gone for around $200. The fact it didn't also supports TheBigSpender's belief that American razors are undervalued given their typical superb performance.

I only bid $45 for it. I guess I didn't stand a chance. IMHO it's a nice razor, but I just don't think it was $124 nice, for me anyway, maybe the buyer feels differently.

The Standard "Guide" to razors is just that, a Guide
Check out a DD and see how it values them
Also it is slightly biased toward American razors in general...
The one last point is that it is a collectors guide not a shavers guide....
After all that being said I still checked it, and put my snipe in accordingly at just under what the winning bid was and I thought that was way to high for the razor....
2 of them in almost them same shape went for $50-$60 just 10 days ago.... all it takes is two of us that want it and that drives the price up....
