Default Here's a really cool one

All right, i didn't go after the redhead. I was on there and said to myself, if I'm gonna do something I shouldn't I should at least make it count. I found this one

Confederate Soldier's Straight Razor, Original, Excel. - eBay (item 150310696245 end time Nov-24-08 19:50:49 PST)

I've been wanting a "smiling" blade to try out, and haven't seen anything this extreme, looks really cool. don't know how practical but I'm gonna go for it and hope nobody else remembers to bid so I can get it for a good low price.

what do you guys think about the blade shape, ever see one that curved?

Looks like it needs a lot of work to restore and honing a wedge like that ain't easy. Cool blade though.

Case made some blade with insane smiles like that; I believe Philadelph has one in his album of keepers.

I do agree that this is a very interesting blade, but it could take a lot of work. Maybe it's just my untrained eye, but I find it hard to tell what is staining, what is pitting, and what is rust. Also very difficult for me to see a bevel clearly, though it does look like there is a fair bit of hone wear on the toe.

I'm tempted to say "aw hell, go for it and go big," but who knows what some collectors (straights, Civil War, whoever else) might bid...

True, I wouldn't spend a whole lot. I think I would give 50 for it though. Probably won't see too many like that.

I was thinking more of getting one like that o have as reference to have one made later, probably is a lot of work. Pictures are probably enough to go off of though. it is really hard for me to find smiling blades on there. a smiling blade and a large wedge are on my list of razors I want to try shaving with. (actually I think that's my entire list)
