Thanked: 37Very Sharp Razor for Sale
I was checking through the 'Bay and found this description for a razor that at first looked promissing.
This is a RED IMP 132 Wedge Straight Razor in near new condition. Blade stamped "132 RED IMP TRADE MARK" . The other side is stamped "Made in USA by CASE". It has beautiful red scales, no scratches or marks on them, it is stamped with the logo and "RED IMP WEDGE TRADE MARK". The tang appears to have had bluing (from factory). The Blade is 5/8 and is shave ready sharp with a very polished mirror finish on it. There are no scratches or marks or spotting on the blade at all. It is very sharp! It cuts paper almost with just the weight of the blade. I inherited this from my grandfather who owned a barber shop but never used it, he kept it and one other razor put away this whole time. I still find it hard to believe it is about 50 years old.
I just visualize this guy wrapping Christmas presents and using this razor to cut the paper. You know I bet it cuts cardboard boxes well also.

A light honing should do it unless he has damaged the edge somehow, hopefully all he did was cut paper!

I think you'll be fine. I saw the same razor from the same seller on craigslist with different pics and the razor looked pretty much unused.

Thanked: 3I was hoping to see a response to that posting on Ebay. It's incredibly obvious who the knowledgeable sellers are based on the ad content. I have watched dozens of str8s come and go and simply didn't trust enough to purchase. I plan to look at estate sales and flea markets before Ebay (for restoration projects). For good quality blades, I'll buy at SRP (like the two great str8s I bought from Max). Thank you, guys.

Thanked: 27On the contrary, straight razors make excellent box cutters.

Well, I forgot to post an update.....
It came in like new condition ... absolutely beautiful
I got lucky as the description left a lot to be desired in faith that the seller knew anything about razors.
