Thanked: 26Rare Scales on Wrong Blade?
There's a Henckels razor listed on eBay here. The scales are very nice but I don't believe they're the original scales. I have owned numerous Henckels #81 razors and they all came with plain ivory or ebony celluloid scales.

Dunno, but back in the 1980s I used to go into barber shops and ask if they had any old razors they would sell. I eventually became friends with some old barbers. One of them reminiscing about the old days told me that traveling salesmen used to come in from the barber supply houses. They would rescale blades with cracked scales on the spot. I notice that there is no pin at the bottom of the scale on that Henckles. I always have suspected that one pin scales are replacements . I am not sure if that is correct, just my supposition.

The book is by Robert Doyle the same author of the excellent "Straight Razor Collecting"in 1980. I just ordered his new one here. Robert Doyle is an auctioneer with a very large collection of straight razors.

I have a couple of carved handle razors, both of them are replacements for the originals. I was under them impression that most figural handled razors were.
