Default Tried to bid, ebay need to validate my age

I wanted to bid on this - Vintage ERN Crown & Sword Open / Straight Razor on eBay, also, Barber Shop Shaving, Vanity Perfume Grooming, Collectables (end time 15-Jan-09 21:26:37 GMT) - but ebay keeps telling me that I need to enter my credit card details to validate my age, but to do that I appear to need to set up a seller account, and it -then- tells me that they need to 'phone my home phone number to verify my phone number!

Why does it have to be so hard! I will pass. What a pain in the ass! I have bid on other straights without problems!

I don't mind the fact that there is an age restriction on the auction, it's just the convoluted and awkward way ebay handles it that had me frustrated.

If someone in a store asked me to verify my age I would probably be flattered!

I have had this problem with 2 buyers trying to bid on C&S razors I was selling.
Ebays twist on this problem is that C&S razor comes under Swords & knives & all bidders have to be over 18. A registered credit card proves this. I told them it was a razor but to no avail, they just reply with irrelevancies & won’t respond to the issue. When I got the survey I gave their response a right slating, for what good it will do!

How does the age verification with the credit card work? Does the credit card company release information about the card holder (such as age)?

Think you will need to be 18 To get a credit card unlike a debit card!

I just realised that I only have debit cards - I don't own a credit card, so it probably wouldn't have worked even if I had made it far enough to enter a number.

    Default Aaaargh! Missed a bargain?

Great! I just tried to place a snipe bid on this
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ies%26_fvi%3D1
Old Cut Throat Razor called the Special B by Wade & Butcher Sheffield in original embossed case. as new condition.
Bid failed because of this stupid verification and it sold for £12.50.

Why should I set up a seller's account just to prove I am over 18?
In fact I haven't used my credit cards in a looong time, I'm not sure if they are even active. (I worked out that being in debt is a mug's game.)

Grrrrrrr!!! My only Consolation was that I wasn't 100% sure the razor itself was really a W&B:

It seems to be triggered by something in the listing
I listed some DE blades & it warned me about knives and blades when I confirmed the listing???
BTW I will let you know if it is a W&B blade & not just the box.

Haha well done. It does seem to depend if the item is listed in the knife section. Just seems odd I've been on ebay for nearly 7 years and this is the first time I've had this problem, and I've bought knives, razors and worse things.
