Would it be bad form to recommend this in the next newb "which razor?" post? Purely for research.

If it was half that price, I would go for it. As it is now, that could be a very expensive mistake.

Well Joke, technically it *is* half that price for you fellas over in the US. That price is AUD, which at the moment is trading at 0.62 USD.

So can I take it that you volunteer to test this baby out?

No stamp.
You can see on the heel and tang how poorly finished it is.
56 Rockwell will hold something of an edge, I guess.
Even with pattern welded steel, I 'd still expect craftmanship and avid design.

I believe I'll pass.

Not when you take standard-median-cerulain monetary conversion factors into consideration. That plus the shipping...always the shipping!

I'll be honest, I'm strangely tempted.

I'll be honest: if it had been on eby, I'd have bought it right now.
As it is, I don't feel like signing up on yet another auction site, and I also prefer paypal, but:

- seller mentions explicitly that it is not shavready
- seller explains that this is not authentic damascus but pattern welded
- seller mentions rockwell hardness (57 is what several older sheffields are, and they shave great)
- seller mentions alloys used in the pattern
- seller mentions dimensions

so while it could very well be a dud, I would plonk down the money instantly to give it a try. at least there is a good chance that it is a very decent razor.
