Anyone know what this is?
The Russian razor is not very interesting, but the Geneva Savedge looks cool.
Wondering if anyone knows what the hinged bit on the Safedge is for - early type of safety razor?

Yeah, I think they were trying to make a less-scary straight razor.
If anyone has used one of these, I'm curious about how they shave.

I think the idea here is similar to a safety razor. The leading edge would be the guard not the cutting edge.

It looks like the straight version of a Rolls Razor. I kind of like that, I would love to try one.

Cool! Thanks for the link.
This exact make and model of razor is pictured on pg. 11 of Krumholz's "Getting To Know Your Straight Razors," and is the first one I've ever actually seen outside of this book. It's referred to as a "guarded razor," in an attempt to compete with the safety razor rage of the 1900s period. I wouldn't have one myself, but for collectors, they are apparently very rare when intact as this one is. It's pictured with other rare razors such as multi-blade razors, razors with long "monkey" tails or round "ring" tails, and a razor with an added corkscrew like a Swiss Army knife. A true novelty, apparently...

Thanked: 0thanks gentlemen...
I was the purchaser of these items and had my first straight razor shave yesterday with the safedge, using a belt for a strop. Still alive, not even a nick, quite possibly due to the safety guard. I haven't used the other one yet. I was surprised that the condition of the razors when they arrived was better than that indicated in the photos. FYI the total inc postage was approximately $25 in your money (I am Australian). Thanks for the info.
