Why They Say Buyer Beware
This item, # 200314402474 is an example of buyer beware. The seller says it is in "Excellent Condition !!!" He has 100% feedback with over 500 hits. The first photo shows the large piece of the point broken off but the close up of the blade is framed to omit that portion. The damage isn't mentioned in the short description. Blade has some spotting. Yeah right. I wonder if he is that dumb ? How could he hope to sell it to someone who won't want a refund ?

Maybe they should have said what's left of the blade is in excellent condition. :P

It's just a mis-located barber's notch

The picture showing the chip looks to be artfully staged to make the divot less noticeable. The top edge of the box tends to break up discontinuity of the line of the toe chip and the undamaged edge. At first glance, I thought the true edge of the blade was actually a shadow on the box until I looked closer.

Thanked: 278Yikes! It's like one of those 3D stereogram pictures, you have to stare at it a while (or zoom in) and then POW! you see what it is.
P.S. Note how he only claims the pins and the box are in good condition, if you read it carefully.
P.P.S. Ignore that, the auction title claims the razor is in excellent condition!Last edited by Rajagra; 02-26-2009 at 04:25 PM.

I used to have a tendency to bid on stuff without carefully studying the photos or asking questions. A friend pointed out obvious hone wear on a razor I was bidding on and I started being more careful. That and receiving blades with chips, and cracks or cracks in the scales at the pivot made me more circumspect. The subject of this thread is more obvious though.

Wow! Just out of curiosity I sent him a message asking if he has any close-up pics of the broken part.

I did send the seller a question last night and he got back to me saying there is definitely a chip at the top of the razor. He overlooked it when photographing and will revise the listing description.
He did apologize for the error and he just changed the description too to reflect the broken chip.

I just got a Helje MK31 from ebay, that was listed to have a "small chip". When I received the razor it actually has a tear in the blade above the chip. It's a lovely razor with Ivory scales. It's heartbreaking that the blade is unusable. I'm hoping for a partial refund since I feel that it still would have been usable if I could hone out the chip. I couldn't hone out the tear without removing 1/2 the blade.
