Default Too shiny a blade to hold an edge?

I like Henckle steel on chef knives and always wanted to try their SRrs.

$15 bid so far - 6 days left to bid.

Think this is worth a shot?

    Thanks,

    Alpsman

Yep! It's a nice blade. But that price is going to go up by at least a dollar or two between now and then!

Hope you get it though - I won't be in the running.

Henckels are good, though i've only tried the Friodurs. I'd like a Wusthoff for the same reasons.
I have to say, though it's a common search, if you really are interested in a blade on the bay, it's never a good idea to post it here!

    Hey ben.mid,

    Yeah, I knew the risks

There are a bunch of nice looking pieces but some of teh blades are so shiny that I wondered is the stainles content was too high to hold an edge.

    Thanks!

The shine is no indication of them being stainless. Carbon steel will polish up like a mirror, just check the workshop gallery!
    If it's a Henckels & it doesn't say Friodur, it's not stainless.
Stainless is a relatively new material for straights. The older ones are largely Filarmonica's & Friodurs & they're not that old really.
Do not fear the stainless. It'll hold an incredible edge. They may deliver a slightly less smooth shave, but i love them.

Be prepared to pay a fair market price.... as a rule any Henkels in good shape restored or not brings a few Bucks. And Henkels is one of the top names searched on the fleece bay. It will be a nice shaver though im sure....have at it!
