Yes - I just bought one that arrived today for the bone scales. I picked up a different razor a few weeks ago with yellowish bone over the tang but it had black bone scales! I'm guessing a re-scale but not sure. I liked the blade and covered tang but it seemed it needed matching scales. So I looked for good bone scales that to match - a little time and effort and I get a beautiful matched razor... that's the theory anyway. :-) We'll see how that goes.

Thanked: 60nah, that's not true at all .. well, depends on which razor you're talking about.
if you're talking about Cmon , then maybe, coz there are not too many that have vintage cmon razors that they're willing to pay for just scales.
But if you're talking about Dubl Duck scales, well.. seems that even crappy scales are going for at least $50+ these days , i haven't seen crappy DD goldedges for less then $60.

I picked up a lot of 8 razors from the bay last week specifically for 2 sets of scales. It happened that this was one of those rare occasions where I was very nicely surprised at what arrived. Not a bad piece in the bunch. A few were perfect all around and the rest had either great scales or blades. I think it may have been a short auction with bad photos - no other bidders.
I got a Wonderedge that has a set of the most prefect scales I've seen but the blade is literally a metal toothpick. 2 beautiful complete razors, some scales that match perfectly to some I need to replace, and a clean unpitted 7/8 blade that I didn't even realize was in the lot - that's a real gem. There was also a Paki blade in there but even on those the scales will work out nicely for a blade looking for a home - and I can use the blade for cutting open boxes and Dremel attachment containers. All for just over $20 shipped! I almost felt guilty until I remembered all those nasty surprises from a few previous buys there.
So sometimes the bay evens itself out with unexpected gems.
