Thanked: 278Escher prices?
Is it possible to put a market price on Eschers? Or are they a perfect example of items that are so uncommon that you just have to suck it up when you see one and bid the most you are willing to pay?
I've been avoiding buying a Chinese 12K or a Shapton 16K for a while now, knowing that an Escher is what I'm really after. I finally snagged this one.
I'm real happy to finally get one, so the price was right for me, but what do you think? Absolute bargain? Overpriced for a small stone?
I just realised it had been listed before at a higher amount (£100). I probably saw it and was tempted but think it was too high a price.

Thanked: 171Great price on what should be a great hone.
I've not see an escher labeled one in the box like that, cool!
I think a few of us have "The Celebrated Water Razor Hone" that came in boxes just like that with labels very similar, but are not actually labeled eschers. Probably still the same (or very similar) stones anyway.
I'd love to see some more pics once you get it in!
Nice grab! You're gonna love the stone!

This will make you feel good about the price you paid.
THE CELEBRATED WATER RAZOR HONE - MADE IN GERMANY - eBay (item 330327479430 end time May-10-09 20:12:06 PDT)
Gee, I wonder who bid $75?
VINTAGE RAZOR SHARPENING STONE KNIFE ESCHER - eBay (item 360152759898 end time May-11-09 18:20:07 PDT)
Isn't it amazing how one word (Escher) raises the price?

It is similar to other "hot" items like W&B barber's use or DD Wonderedges. Sometimes it gets a lot of attention and two determined bidders drive it up and sometimes it is under the radar. Enjoy your new hone.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3795I have two of those. One is in a box and the other isn't. They are very fine hones and work quite well. Their size might make them a bit of a challenge for those who are only used to Norton sized hones.
