Long Swaty
The only reason I got rid of my two normal sized Swaty's was that they were "too short" for me to hone comfortably on. I always told myself that if I could find a long one, I'd buy it. Well, I saw this one and got a little excited. I bought it without really looking carefully (I didn't want to waste time and miss out). What do you guys think? Is that the "proper" writing for a long Swaty?

Thanked: 3795I don't recall for certain, but I think mine was from Marburg. I'll try to find it soon to check for sure. However, there were Swatys made in Yogoslavia so I'd assume yours to be legitimate. Jimmy's got one too so it's just a matter of time before he chimes in.
That's a nice hone!

Mine has the Wahring Bei Wein with (Austria) in parenthesis underneath. All this in raised letters. I have another mint in the box that I cannot find right now. If I remember correctly it has the same address but the letters are embedded rather than raised. Nice hone, you did well.
Edit; Found the other long one. Same address. My short Swaty has the same as well.Last edited by JimmyHAD; 06-11-2009 at 05:21 PM.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I just wanted top point out that I have both Yugo and Austria Swatys both with"made in Yugoslavia" in the end in yellow-geen paint
I also have a 8 inch long swaty, minus the name, but I'm quite sure it's a Swaty.
I think it may be the ultimate barber hone.
That one,I doubt I'll sell.

She arrived today. I spotted the postman down the block and went out to meet him (ok, so maybe I was a bit over excited). I brought her inside and set to lapping. Surprisingly, the front wasn't too far off from flat, and it only took about 15 mins to get her the rest of the way there.
From what I can tell, this appears to be a legit Swaty. She was quite dark when she arrived, but lightened up when lapped. She is smooth as glass and reflects light. All of this is consistant with the two and three line Swatys I've had in the past.
Size wise, she's just about the same length and width as my C12K (the smaller version), which is 8 x 2, according to Woodcraft's site.
I also happened to get a Sheffield blade in recently, so when it comes time to polish her up I'll see what this Swaty can do.
