Total score. One of the scores of the year? I think they're horn. I hope I'm right.

The easiest way to tell since you'll have twenty pair, is to take a scale and snap it in half.

Don't break it man! Try this first. Just rub the inside of one a little with some very fine sandpaper then sniff. If it smells like burnt hair, they're probably horn. If they are, then I call dibs on your test set of scales!

Because being ove 100 years old, it's doubtful that celluloid would still be black and shiny. Also, I think there's a certain amount of wishful thinking.

Of course, even if they are just celluoid, that lot is probably worth 10 times what I paid. If it's antique horn, it's probably worth 30 or 40 times what I paid.

    Default WOOT!!! I've got 'em

    My new scales just arrived.

There are 24 sets of scales all together.

Definitely celluloid (which smells an awful lot like vulcanite when sanded) and they are in just as good of condition as I'd hoped. Absolutely perfectly glossy.

The only downside is that they would only work with a 4/8 or 5/8 blade. A 6/8 would not work.

They also have a wedge built in. There's half a wedge formed into each side of the scales.
