    Default Imperial Co. Razor?

Never head of Imperial Co., seen imperial stamped on razors by others - but not this:

RARE Imperial 5/8" German Straight Razor. Vintage!!! - eBay (item 160353062912 end time Aug-09-09 18:35:00 PDT)

I've been wondering why no one's bid on this razor, so I figured there was some bad history to this company or this particular straight. Anyone know?

Well for one thing they're charging nearly $8.00 for shipping.

His reserve may have been high too but I have used one of these. Was a fine shaver.

For whatever reason, Ebay has always been a very harsh place to try to sell razors with custom scales. I swear you could make the most beautiful scales from fossilized oosik for a great vintage razor and if history repeats, they wouldn't sell worth a darn on Ebay. It's kind of crazy, actually. But then again, maybe not?

Nahh, you're right eBay is crazy or at least random. Would just as likely get a good price if re-listed

A fellow recently brought me two razors to clean up and hone for him. They belonged to his grandfather. One was a W&B and the other was one of these Imperials. Both had to be bread knifed to return the smiles to their proper shape. Honing them up I found that the Imperial seemed to be the harder steel. I would guess that it would be a fine shaver. So I scored one on ebay and hope to get to it soon for a restore.

I have come to the conclusion that a lot of the really high bidders are "antique collectors". For them, it is more important that everything is original rather than usable or beautiful.
