Thanked: 0Great, great information!!
Can anyone explain a little better about hone wear?
And also pitting?
I ask because I'm not sure I understand about hone wear, and I know there are some dark circular spots on some of the blades and I would like to be as correct as possible in describing the razor.
You guys are awesome - thanks for all the help....
And Bill's guides are a hoot! Good reading.
Hope to get some of these listed this weekend.

Thanked: 0Some of that didn't make great sense....
I meant that I don't understand hone wear, and I want to make sure I do understand pitting since some of the blades have the dark spots....

hone wear is wear on the bevel and spine, sometimes it changes the shape of the blade negatively.
use google and search this website for "smile", "frown", "hone wear", "pitting" etc. there are good threads if you are willing to invest the time to look for the answers.

below is a razor without any hone wear.
when the razor is honed it develops a flat area at the spine because the spine must lay on the hone the metal is removed from there.
pitting is small dimples which are left behind when rust is removed from the surface. a new razor has nice and smooth surface, but if not cared for properly it would rust.
