Thanked: 202have to agree. The problem could be that these bans are done by a computer. I would not be surprised that it uses US English in which cut throat has different meaning than in UK one. Just wrong combination of words. Possibly if you list the items as Traditional steel object to be used during everyday ceremony of great importance you could be more successfull. Just thought you would have to be carefull when drawing your razor in front of parliament as you coul find yourself followed by a policeman ready to help you if you needed the assistance.

Thanked: 3164Ardsprach - I spoke to the Ebay Mods and they say that all the bans in this category are follow-ups on things that have been reported by other users.
I can see a computer helping with listings using banned substances like Ivory or possible trade infringements (eg "Puma" being confused with sports clothing), but these are flagged at listing time.
Call me suspicious, but if Ebay wanted to toe-the-line they could computer process all the listings in every category and pull 1000s of them, so why don't they do that? - could it be they are fonder of monetary gain than following the law?!
The stupidity of having a "cut throat razor" category heading (seriously! it is under collectables>vanity/perfume/grooming>barbershop/shaving>cut throat razors) and then knee-jerk pulling of listings of cut-throat razors (whether of not they have that name in the descriptions: mine and Tony's don't) is what gets me.
I feel the same way about the UK "knife-crime" furore as I do about speeding cameras - they cure the sympton, not the cause. If its not guns, its knives. If its not knives its stanley blades. If its not blades its sharpened aluminium combs. If its not combs, its screwdrivers/axes/claw hammers - and on and on. It's not the implement, its the individual - if they are going to commit crime with a weapon they will use whatever they can get, and we already have laws in place that cover that - carrying an offensive weapon to name but one.
Just to re-cap after that long, tedious diversion of mine, its not the wording that got the listings pulled, just do-gooder numpties.
Regards,
Neil

Couldn't have said it better myself, Neil. If I wanted to use a weapon I wouldn't have to go to the extent of importing a straight razor from the USA, I could just go to the local supermarket and buy something that could harm someone.

I'm with Neil on this: this short-sightedness is a disgrace. Good thing though we can still joke and laugh about it.

Thanked: 124I'm afraid you all are mistaken. There are already cunning and insightful steps being taken that will eliminate all Knife Crime in the UK, and after that, the world. Gentlemen, allow me to present the "Stab Proof Knife"! Just think, if these were for sale, everywhere, no one would be able to stab anyone else ever again!

No, sadly, this isn't a joke...

Slightly off topic but they just banned fireworks in our Capital.
The government must be fearful of a Guy Fawkes style attempt to blow em upThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 202To those stab proofs. Probably have not seen yet anybody impaled on a flat topped fence post or never heard of possibility of cutting stone with water.
To that Guy Fawkes thing. Was he not the only man entering the Parliament with honest intentions?
