    Default Need a RAD Fix!!!!

I'm afraid this turned into a stream of consciousness blog type posting. Oh well - no one has to read it...

It's Saturday and raining in eastern foothills of Colorado - rain?!?!?! This time of year? Friggin' global warming or heating or weeping or some unnatural stuff. Couldn't simply be the change of seasons - nah! Took the family to IHOP for breakfast just because it's raining and to watch them wake up to a sugar high. The kids have cabin fever after 8 hours inside now, the dog is pacing restlessly because my wife won't let him and our 4 year old go out and roll in puddles in the yard, the 12 year old is torturing the 8 year old, and here I sit looking for something to do.

Well I already had a great shave (probably a Shave of the Day entry) using an Engstrom I picked up from Sham a few weeks ago. Man I can't wait until I can make a blade as smooth as Sham does! I have a week's worth of Fillys and some other phenomenal shavers by W&B, Reynolds, and some other cleavers that I like but I'm still amazed how well that little Engstrom shaves. I't unnatural - it shouldn't do well on me at all! It's a little over 5/8, very thin from toe to tang, frameback but almost too petite for me to get my gorilla hand in a position to manipulate it well (I had to use 2 hands at one point the first time I used it - it's that thin and light). Imagine a gorilla trying to twirl a toothbrush in it's fingers and that's about the agility I have with a thin or light razor. But it shaves like a dream so I'll keep fumbling around with it.

So let's see my accomplishments for the day so far...

    • A hot and well prepared, well lathered, slow shave - check.
    • Show the wife my undying gratitude for agreeing to get hooked up with me 18 years ago and for staying with me through all the promotion transfers and life in general - check.
    • Lose all my SRP play money in the casino - check.
    • Clean and sharpen a few razors I'll never use and really do need to get rid of soon - check.
    • Practice honing a few razors so Sham doesn't get ****ed at me for relaxing on my "studies" that he's so graciously taken the time to teach me (gotta remember him at Christmas!) - check.
    • Try to catch a peek at the new Dutch neighbor getting her mail - check.
    • Go check my mailbox 10 times to see if any new blades or my new paddle strops and lifetime supply of diamond paste and Chromium Oxide have arrived yet - check and no packages today.
    • Scan the bay for Fillys, useable W&Bs or Engstroms - check, nothing new of interest.
    • Load the pipe up with some Opulence tobacco, smoke on the porch, watch the rain, and let the dog sniff the smoke and lick himself - check.
    • Consider how I might go about shaving the dog just for kicks (he's a big Old English Sheepdog) - check, put it off until I come up with a funny idea.
    • Pretend to enjoy watching modern cartoons with the kids for a while (what happened to good quality stuff like Tom and Jerry or Roadrunner cartoons?) - check.
    • Scan SRP classifieds again for a nice surprise (last check at 8 am) - check.
    • Surrender to boredom and lack of imagination today (rain I guess) and write a seriously boring post to SRP - check.

OK that was 6 hours of the day. Now what? I need a RAD fix. An auction that ends in about 10 minutes that has some unnoticed blade that's in great shape but had horrible photos taken. Something that will shave like a hot knife through butter but needs a little TLC and honing to come back to life. Anyone know of one like that? Yeah, OK, like you guys would 'fess up to finding one like that *before* it closes. :-) Ah, I wouldn't let it out of the bag either if I found one and wanted it.

OK then - the dinner bell has rung and I smell grilled meat! Suddenly the world looks a bunch brighter! It all reminds me of that Camp Grenada song back in the '60s. You know it if you're over 50.. "Hello Mudda' Hello Fadda' Here I am at Camp Grenada..."

Cheers gents - time to eat, drink, and maybe go catch a movie. Have a good weekend.
