Seems that like everywhere else in life issues have layers. It's a very good thing to be able to steer people away from the cons on fleabay - but in doing so, one could cause more trouble than any potential loss from a dishonest seller. You are all correct in your points made. But I'm sure there has to be a way to be fair, but also to be direct enough to pass on that this or that seller is to be avoided. Maybe the answer lies in a simple post that contains the auction link and a simple, factual, unemotional description of what was received and how the seller responded. Maybe even a link and a cut and paste of the ebay messages that were passed back and forth (if you were able to get a response at all).

Today was the very first dispute I've filed with ebay or paypal since I got my ebay account in 1998. I THOUGHT I had been ripped off a few times in the past but just as I was about to start a complaint, the seller wrote or called and we worked it out. In one instance he'd been away for a week and that week just happened to be when I was trying to contact him. So yes, one can indeed cause problems by publicly trashing a seller when in a reality they were simply not available - I can also see the possibility that one seller may try to tarnish the reputation of the competition. The list goes on as you think about it all.

No suggestions from me about this now, but I'd love for us to be able to come up with something where you, I, or anyone else can scan something to see if the $200 you're about to bid is with a seller that is NOT dishonest - or who thus far has not made the "List of Problem Sellers". A seller version of the Wiki "Razors to Avoid" article would be nice.

Yea, it's called seller feedback. Don't be afraid to leave a big pile of dog crap. As a seller I always leave feedback right when I receive funds and as a sometimes buyer I'm infuriated when other sellers do not do this.

Kinda similar to shooters idea--there could just be a reviews section for ebay sellers. Its the same thing as reviewing anything else, really. If you wanted to be certain there was no vengeance stuff going on you could put a 50 post min before you could post a review.

I haven't ebay in long time probably years and discovered months ago that they've done away with Seller being able to give you "negative" feedback. I think that's BS. It goes both ways: there are bad buyers as well as sellers.

AC and everyone else I wholeheartedly agree with you guys excellent points. The only thing I'd like to emphasize is word of mouth, perhaps as you guys said PM/contact friends and what not if you've a bad experience.
If anything you see someone here who posts a link to the auction with seller you happen to have misgivings, you can PM them to let them know sans disparaging remarks be it "hey saw you were interested in that razor just wanted to let you know he ships fast but it wasn't as advertised..." or "hey it took hell of time getting to me but he/she's good seller..."

In your case also there are times when people might have family emergency or what have you who knows?

Unrelated but somewhat relevant, I bought a bought a book off of Amazon and due to fact it's taken well over 7 days to ship from Chicago, decided to contact the seller. Only then did he inform me that there was delay with USPS media mail and added that it takes 6-21 days-which is of no surprise to me because when I got my Norton's from Amazon it took IIRC 2 weeks. Currently I got books sold by Amazon as well and received received in 6 days. But of course it varies.

That said, it doesn't make the seller bad as he's no control over shipping/shipping delays. He's a couple of negative percentage points but I figure it's minor as I couldn't be bothered to go through every feedback ( I absolutely check ebay especially if it's within month or 6 month period.

Also like to point fact that just because they have 100% feedback does not mean transaction will be smooth. I had bad experience with 1 seller years ago and lost $300.xx.
