    I think a re-scale would be unnecessary because there is no present defects.

    As others have said they look to be original and there appears to be nothing wrong with them. No bling but if there is nothing wrong with a set of scales I will leave them alone. I prefer to leave stuff original if at all possible.
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    I'd leave the scales alone as well. To me keeping original scales is always preferred. There doesn't seem to be any structural problems with them and they look pretty good with the blade. A slight buffing and a little Renaissance Wax and the scales should pop right back up to original I'd think. In any case that's an excellent find! Way to go!

    arrived at the restorer's today. he says it is "mint". gonna hone 'er up and lather up!
