Hmm ... I was planning on leaving it as is.

I think a re-scale would be unnecessary because there is no present defects.

I'd leave the scales alone as well. To me keeping original scales is always preferred. There doesn't seem to be any structural problems with them and they look pretty good with the blade. A slight buffing and a little Renaissance Wax and the scales should pop right back up to original I'd think. In any case that's an excellent find! Way to go!
