Default Have a look at this one! lol....

Wow...I'm not sure what to say about this one! Razor estimated to be from the 1700's maybe 1800's with original Wostenholm case. Razor made in Germany! lol....It's not that hard to do a little research before selling something! Crazy

Funny how a razor made in Germany comes with an "original" case from England... What a hoot!

I thought the seller wasn't too bright , until I noticed that some "genius" (or shill) has bid $25.00 for it .

Ha, that is pathetic! Good catch.

Kind of makes me wonder, however -- why is it that you see lots and lots of razors from late 1800s, some from mid 1800s and one or two from early 1800s, but there doesn't seem to be any around from earlier. I mean, it's not like metal just turns into dust after 200 years, so where are all of the great straight razors from before 1800? People must have shaved back then, right?

The razor itself screams early 20th century.

That's a good question Jeff. I've seen some examples from the 1700's in books so they are out there. I would imagine that throughout the years they were just lost or used to extinction. Maybe with the changing designs of razors, people didn't want to shave with those "primitive" ones. Perhaps they were neglected to the point of ruin and discarded.....who knows?

Isn't Savigny a razor manufacturer from the 1700's?

Shell Vintage Antique 19th C. Straight Razor Savigny Co - eBay (item 370212256244 end time Jan-02-10 18:14:45 PST)

(Olivier Savigny - 1731-? Cutler, razor maker, surgical instrument maker)

I think the seller got it wrong.. Doesn't look like 19th century. If you look at the pictures from the Lummus articles on old Sheffield razors, it is very similar to the late 1700's Sheffield razors and the very early 1800's razors. Except for that strange round point. I've never seen a round point on any razor from the 1700's..

I got this one on ebay a couple of years ago . The seller said it was from the 1940's . I think they were off by about 140 years . I got it for less than $8.00 .
